We are offering three field trips on Sunday, July 22. Timing permits going on both a 9am field trip to either the New England Wildlife Center or a whale watch, and the 2pm trip to MSPCA-Angell, if you wish to do so. Field trips are limited to Symposium attendees and their guests.

New England Wildlife Center

The New England Wildlife Center (NEWC) is a wide-reaching facility offering the only comprehensive wildlife hospital in the metro-Boston area, an affordable exotic pet clinic, a nature center, classes to become a wildlife rehabilitator, a veterinary internship program, and educational curricula for students of all ages. You are invited to take a tour with two of NEWC’s veterinarians, where you’ll have an opportunity to see wildlife receiving care, learn about how veterinarians and staff help animals recover and return to the wild, and stretch your legs on the Center’s indoor and outdoor nature trails.

NEWC is generously providing the tour at no cost, but participants are strongly encouraged to make an onsite donation of $15+ to support the important work of this outstanding organization!

NEWC is located in South Weymouth, MA. The tour will start at 9am and you can anticipate arriving back to the hotel by 12:30-1pm. Participants will depart the hotel at 7:45am with travel to the facility via commuter rail and a NEWC van. This tour is limited to 16 participants.

Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary whale watch

Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary is a famous destination for whale watching. We will coordinate a group whale watch through the New England Aquarium/Boston Harbor Cruises. The 3-hour tour will take place on a large custom catamaran. Boston Harbor Cruises is a member of Whale SENSE. This voluntary program is sponsored by NOAA Fisheries and Whale and Dolphin Conservation. Developed in collaboration with the whale watching industry, Whale SENSE recognizes whale watching companies committed to responsible practices.

The whale watch will depart from Central Wharf. The tour will begin at 9am. Participants will depart the hotel at 7:40am. You can anticipate returning to the hotel at approximately 1pm. You can reach Central Wharf by taxi/Lyft, walking (1.2 miles), or public transportation.

Group tickets are no longer available for this field trip. However, you can still join us! If you have not yet purchased a ticket through ACC&D, you can purchase a ticket directly from Boston Harbor Cruises (9am tour on Sunday, July 22). Contact Valerie Benka for more details.

MSPCA-Angell is generously providing the tour at no cost, but participants are strongly encouraged to make an onsite donation of $15+ to support the organization’s essential work!

The tour will begin at 2pm and you can anticipate being back at the hotel by 4:30pm. The Angell Animal Medical Center and MSPCA adoption center are located in Boston.
